Why Ant Control Is a Particular Issue in West Vancouver
West Vancouver's almost entirely forested landscape creates among the most consistent carpenter ant pressure in Metro Vancouver. Cypress Mountain's conservation forest, Lighthouse Park's ancient Douglas fir stands, and the Hollyburn and British Properties hillside forest create year-round carpenter ant source populations that forage directly into adjacent residential. Unlike flat Metro Vancouver cities where there is some distance between forest and homes, West Vancouver's forested character means virtually every residential property is within direct foraging range of large carpenter ant populations.
British Properties' large estate homes — many of them on hillside lots with undisturbed landscaping, large mature trees, and crawl spaces — provide exceptional carpenter ant nesting conditions when moisture accumulates in sub-floor framing. Horseshoe Bay and older Hollyburn homes from the 1940s to 1970s carry original crawl-space construction with the same moisture-accumulated framing conditions.
