Why Flea and Tick Pressure Is a Particular Issue in West Vancouver
Cypress Mountain's extensive ski trail network (used year-round for hiking) and Lighthouse Park's old-growth trails create some of the highest black-legged tick exposure zones on the North Shore. The mountain's large deer and wildlife host populations, combined with Lighthouse Park's ancient forest and its associated deer movement, sustain tick populations in the trail-edge vegetation year-round.
British Properties' large estate lots with forested boundaries and deer movement through these properties create above-average residential tick exposure. Deer are common in the British Properties upper hillside, and their presence in residential gardens creates tick-host contact year-round.
Cypress Mountain's black bear and deer populations are also significant for flea host movement into adjacent residential areas.
