Why Squirrel Control Is a Particular Issue in New Westminster
Queens Park is home to some of the oldest and largest ornamental street and yard trees in Metro Vancouver. Victorian-era planting of horse chestnuts, maples, oaks, and elms from the 1890s and early 1900s has created a mature canopy that extends directly over the rooflines of heritage homes on every Queens Park block. Grey squirrels travel this canopy and access rooflines through branches that have been reaching Victorian eaves for decades.
Combined with the oldest wood-frame soffit construction in the region — century-old fascia boards with well-established separation gaps — Queens Park presents the most consistent squirrel attic access situation in New Westminster.
