Why Stink Bugs Are a Particular Issue in New Westminster
New Westminster has two distinct stink bug pressure zones. The first is Queensborough — an island neighbourhood in the Fraser River adjacent to Delta and Pitt Meadows agricultural land. Stink bug populations in the Fraser River floodplain agricultural areas migrate into Queensborough residential in autumn, creating above-average overwintering pressure similar to Surrey's Cloverdale ALR-adjacent situation.
The second zone is Queens Park's heritage homes. The century-old eave and soffit construction on Victorian and Edwardian homes provides more overwintering entry geometry than any other residential construction era in Metro Vancouver. Annual perimeter treatment combined with heritage-appropriate exclusion sealing reduces indoor overwintering significantly on these properties.
